Tourist facilities at Bhorer Alo
The state tourism department has introduced new facilities at Bhorer Alo, the tourism hub at Gajoldoba in Jalpaiguri district, to draw tourists. Among these include ‘shikara’ rides in the Teesta, facilities for sky-watching and indoor games. “We have launched these facilities from Saturday,” said Jyoti Ghosh, the joint director of tourism (NB).
Located around 25km from Siliguri, Bhorer Alo, which has come up on the left bank of the Teesta near the barrage, is the largest tourism project taken up by the Mamata Banerjee government inthe state. “Two ‘shikaras’ have been introduced and trained boatmen are running the boats,” said an official.
Fire at store
A fire broke out in a chimney service centre on Rifle Range Road on Sunday afternoon. Police said a fire tender was pressed into action to douse the fire. No one was trapped or injured, officers of Karaya police station said.
