Health centres at railway stations
Howrah, Sealdah, Bardhaman and Durgapur will be among the railway stations that will soon have a healthcare unit with a doctor. The initiative, in partnership with a private operator, is part of an effort to increase non-fare revenues of the railways, officials said.
“The Eastern Railway has awarded a contract for setting up healthcare centres at 270 stations for five years,” said Arun Arora, general manager of Eastern Railway. The facility with the doctor will be available at 14 stations in West Bengal, including Howrah, Dankuni, Bardhaman, Sealdah, Barrackpore, Barasat, Durgapur and Malda Town.
