Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered former School Service Commission chief adviser S.B. Sinha to furnish details about his properties to the court.

Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had first issued the order after suspecting corruption during the recruitment of staff in different schools by the SSC in recent years.

Against this order, the commission had moved the division bench headed by Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava seeking a stay. But the larger bench on Tuesday declined to issue a stay on Justice Gangopadhyays’s order and asked Sinha to carry out the order of single bench judge.

Earlier, while hearing different petitions, Justice Gangopadhyay held that a large number of candidates had been illegally recommended by the SSC for recruitment in Group C and Group D posts in secondary schools across Bengal in recent years.

The candidates who had succeeded in the test were allegedly deprived. To find the truth, the judge had ordered a CBI probe but following petitions by the state and the SSC the larger bench had issued a stay on that order.

But Sinha got no relief.

“The bench shared the single bench judge’s suspicion that there was exchange of money during the recruitment process for staff in state-aided schools,” said a lawyer present in the court. So the judge issued the day’s order.
