The haunting memories of Robinson Street were 'replayed' in the Nandipara area of Ramrajatla, Howrah. For three days, a girl sat with her mother's rotting body. Finally, on Tuesday evening, the Jagacha police swung into action and recovered the body of Minti Kundu, 75. Earlier, Minti's daughter Sumna Kundu, 41, informed her neighbours about her mother’s death and expressed her desire to bury the remains in the house. The shocked neighbours informed Minti’s son who lived separately.
Police stricture to bus operators
In a bid to ensure smooth mobility to pandal-hoppers, traffic police asked all its 25 guards to ensure that no buses cut short their routes and ply along only “profitable” stretches, especially in the evenings, on Puja days. Police have asked bus workers not to put up boards displaying the names of particular Puja pandals to draw more passengers. They have also been asked to arrange for as many buses as possible to ply on wee hours.
