Two men from Telangana who allegedly posed as cops and entered the chamber of a judge on Wednesday are said to have tried to bribe him to release a person accused of committing dacoity.

It turned out that the two were relatives of the accused. Ashish Prakash Pandit, 40, and Yashpal Sharma, 41, both from Hyderabad, were arrested after the additional district and sessions judge in the city sessions court raised an alarm.

The police said a photocopy of the purported identity card of an IPS officer in Hyderabad, who was suspended for alleged extortion, has been found on the accused.

Cops are yet to verify whether the two are linked to the officer.

An officer said the two walked into the chamber of the judge and introduced themselves as senior officers of Hyderabad police.

“They showed an identity card and talked about a case registered in July 2021,” said an officer.

One of them allegedly tried to offer a bribe to the judge for an order releasing Ravinder Ojha, who was arrested for allegedly committing a dacoity.

“The judge was furious and asked for help from his staff. The police were alerted and the moment cops arrived, the two were handed to them,” said the officer.
