Driver jumps to death from Parama flyover

A man died after jumping from the Parama flyover on EM Bypass in east Kolkata on Sunday evening.

The man, who was a driver in the car pool of the state transport department, jumped off the flyover from the Garia-bound flank around 8.30pm, police said.

He fell around 40ft below, not far from Pragati Maidan police station. He was declared dead at Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital.

He was identified as Jhantu Kumar Das, a resident of Raja Manindra Road in Belgachhia, from his office identity card.

Das was driving a government vehicle, which he left on the flyover before jumping, the police said.
