In an official notification, the SSC revealed that the first two phases of counselling will take place on October 3 and 4, followed by three additional sessions during the last week of October. This announcement comes as a relief for thousands of aspirants who have been eagerly awaiting their chance to secure teaching positions in the state's Upper Primary Level schools.
The commission aims to complete five rounds of counselling within a month following the release of the merit list. The first two rounds, scheduled for early October, will see 658 candidates, while the remaining rounds, planned for October 24, 28, and 29, will accommodate around 700 to 800 candidates each. This process will take place at Acharya Sadan on all the mentioned dates. Additionally, SSC has reserved 10% of the seats for para-teachers.
The merit list, consisting of 14,052 candidates, was published following a directive from the Kolkata High Court. On August 28, the court ordered SSC to release the merit list within four weeks and complete the recruitment process for the 14,339 vacancies. However, as of now, only 8,945 candidates are listed for the upcoming counselling rounds. Concerns have been raised about the commission's ability to complete the counselling for all candidates within the court's deadline of October 23.
The candidates had appeared for the State Level Selection Test (SLST) in 2016, with an interview list published in 2019 and a merit list released on October 4 of the same year. However, the process was marred by allegations of irregularities, leading the Kolkata High Court to annul the merit list and order SSC to start the process afresh. The division bench's subsequent rulings and SSC's compliance have culminated in the ongoing counselling process.
