Several IPS officers, including those in charge of the chief minister’s security, were transferred on Wednesday.

Government sources said the security breach at the chief minister’s residence on Sunday morning prompted the reshuffle. “It was a serious breach, which made it apparent there were lapses in the CM’s security ring,” said a senior official.

Peeyush Pandey, who was additional director-general (correctional services), has replaced Vivek Sahay as director, security. Barrackpore police commissioner Manoj Verma will be the new additional director, security, who will have additional charge of the law and order department. Sahay will be director-general (provisioning).

A Home department official said the directorate of security is responsible for the security of the chief minister and other important government functionaries.

Sources said Pandey’s experience in the Special Protection Group might have prompted the decision to appoint him as director, security.

Additional commissioner (special branch), Kolkata police, Rajesh Yadav, has been posted out of the city police and will take over as head of the correctional services. The primary duty of the special branch is to collect information and provide security to the chief minister and other important government officials.

Sankha Shubhra Chakraborty, who was in the chief minister’s office, will be a joint commissioner of Kolkata police.

Ajay Thakur and Amit P. Javalgi are the new commissioners of Barrackpore and Chandannagar, respectively.
