The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will start on Wednesday a vaccination drive for students of all colleges and universities in the city, Atin Ghosh, who is in charge of the civic body’s health department, said on Monday.
The KMC will set up vaccination camps at a few colleges and universities but most students have to visit their nearest primary health centres for the jab.
“We will set up vaccination centres at Calcutta University, Rabindra Bharati University and Presidency University, among other places,” said Ghosh.
An official said camps would also be run at Bangabasi College and Surendranath College. Each camp can administer up to 500 doses a day.
Jadavpur University’s students will have to go to MR Bangur Hospital for the jab.
The students who want to get vaccinated have to contact the nodal officer of the respective colleges. A KMC official said the nodal officer of each college would prepare a list of 100 students every day and send it to the medical officer of the nearest vaccination centre.
“The students will be asked to visit the centre after 2pm so they do not have to wait in a long queue. Altogether 86 colleges in the Kolkata municipal area will be covered by the special vaccination drive,” the KMC official said.
The drive will have to be completed by October 8, as directed by the state health department, a KMC official said.
