The Celsius rose marginally in Kolkata on Saturday and warmer days are ahead, the Met office said.

A fresh system is likely to take shape on the Bay on Sunday. It is tipped to become stronger. The possible destination it will be headed to is still uncertain, a Met official said.

Under its impact, moisture inclusion is likely in south Bengal. As a result, the Celsius is unlikely to go down significantly in the next few days.

The minimum temperature on Saturday was 19.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal. On Friday, the minimum temperature was 18.9 degrees Celsius.

The day before, the Celsius dipped to 19.1 degrees, the first time it went below 20 degrees this season.

“The free flow of the northwesterly winds had dragged the minimum temperature down. But from Saturday, the northwesterly winds have weakened again. Northerly and northeasterly winds have gained prominence in Kolkata now,” said G.K. Das, director, India Meteorological Department, Kolkata.

The winds are coming from Malda, Jalpaiguri, Assam and Bangladesh, he added.

A cyclonic circulation is likely to take shape near Andaman islands on Sunday.

“Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over south Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal around November 27. It is likely to move westnorthwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around November 29,” said a Met report.

By next Friday, the minimum temperature in Kolkata is likely to rise to 21 degrees, according to the forecast.

“The moisture content in the air is likely to go up in the coming days,” said the official.
