After an hour-long hearing, the bench postponed the hearing of the case till Thursday.

During the hearing, Justice Bagchi said “there must have been” monetary transactions during the illegal appointment of teachers and asked the CBI to start investigating the alleged financial transactions immediately.

“Unless the investigation into the financial transaction part of the case progresses, the court cannot grant bail to the accused,” the judge said.

The lawyer who appeared for Ganguly submitted that since the inquiry into the case by the CBI had ended, there was no need to keep his client behind bars. Opposing the prayer, CBI counsel said teachers were appointed illegally against payment and the sleuths were identifying the beneficiaries.
