Police arrested one person on Monday for allegedly threatening Calcutta Municipal Corporation borough 12 chairman Sushanta Kumar Ghosh with his life in Kasba on Monday.
According to a complaint lodged by Ghosh at Kasba police station, he received a phone call on Sunday evening from an unidentified number where the person threatened him with his life.
The Telegraph contacted Ghosh who confirmed the incident. “I received the call around 6.30pm. It was from an unknown number. The person whom I could not identify over the phone threatened to kill me within one month,” Ghosh said.
The borough chairman, however, did not elucidate the details of the threat.
He added that he reported the matter to the police and shared the number from where the call was made.
An officer of the south suburban division said they started tracking the phone number from where the call was made. Based on that zeroed in on a person named Tanay Samanta alias Hath Kata Guddu.
“He was arrested early on Monday morning. We are probing the reason behind the threat call and if others too were involved in it,” said the officer.
