Bike-borne men shoot at two in Barrackpore biryani outlet

CCTV footage might prove crucial in police investigation

Two persons were grievously injured in a shootout at a biryani outlet at Barrackpore in North 24-Parganas district, around 25km north of Kolkata, on Monday, a police official said.

Three bike-borne miscreants randomly fired at the shop and injured a customer and a worker of the well-known outlet at Barrackpore Wireless Gate in neighbouring North 24-Parganas district on Monday afternoon, the official of Barrackpore police commissionerate said.

The two have been rushed to a nearby hospital, he said.

An investigation has been launched into the incident and a huge police team have been deployed around the shop.

“We are checking CCTV footage. The miscreants were wearing helmets. We have started an investigation in the matter,” the police official said.

Kite string injures traffic cop

A traffic sergeant of Kolkata police was injured by a kite string on the Parama flyover on Sunday afternoon, police said.

The sergeant was on duty at the time of the accident. According to police officers, the sergeant suffered injuries on his hands. The police have been making attempts to stop people from flying kites in the vicinity of the Parama flyover and the AJC Bose Road flyover but apparently little has changed on the ground. Motorcyclists and scooterists often get injured by kite strings, at times fatally.
