Biswas was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by a man from Macchibhanga village in South 24-Parganas.

An officer quoting the complaint said that the man had been looking for a job for more than a year. He had posted his resume on various job sites.

In March, he got a call where the caller identified himself as the manager of a private bank and told him that he was looking to fill up several vacancies in his branch, said the officer.

“After a few days he got two calls where the callers identified themselves as bank officials told him that he had been shortlisted for a position in the bank,” the officer said.

A day later, he got another call asking him to deposit Rs 32,639 as “processing and head hunting fee”. He was asked to come to Salt Lake where two “bank officials” will meet him.

The men who met the complainant in Salt Lake had identified themselves as Souvik Das and Sayan Ganguly.

After the money transfer was done he was handed over an offer letter. This letter later turned out to be a fake.

“Electronic surveillance on the numbers used by the frauds and the money trail led us to Biswas. We are also looking for others involved in the crime,” said the officer.
