t2 caught up with Nussrat Jahan who was present at the launch of the store, and the actress spoke to us about her cooking passion and more.
Do you like cooking?
I really like cooking. It’s an amazing form of art and very destressing.
Do you get to cook at all given your busy schedule?
I try to find some time to cook, especially when I want to cook something healthy, when I have to make some age-old recipes or when the cook is not available. But yeah, I try to take out some time for cooking which is therapeutic.
What are the signature dishes you love to cook?
There are many actually. These days I love cooking pan-seared salmon and a little Continental because I never had a hand for Continental dishes. I was more into Bangali ranna or Mughlai food. Now, I’m trying to do some healthy food so that everyone follows a healthy lifestyle.
Did you pick up your cooking skills from your mother like most of us did?
Absolutely! When you start living on your own or you start living without your mom, the only thing, other than her warmth and love you miss is her hand-cooked food. When I started living on my own, I used to call her up every now and then to ask what should I cook today, and how should I cook. But to date, anything I have cooked never matches the taste of her hand-cooked food which is very special.
Do you cook for your son? What do you like to cook for him?
I prefer feeding him homemade simple food, nothing very fancy. I don’t like to give packaged food or any outside food to him. I go for plain bhaat with machher jhol or chicken stew for him. He likes to eat spicy food nowadays. I love making tomato soup for him.
What are some of the pieces from the all-new collection of Kutchina you would like to take home?
I think everything here is so amazing. When they say they are the largest signature store for kitchens in eastern India, they mean it. The new collection is extremely stylish and the innovations are making life so much easier. I really liked the Futuristic kitchen which has a built-in barbecue section and deep-fryer too. I loved the idea of a Biophilic kitchen which is very good for the ecosystem. The collection is new, it is trendy, it is stylish and I think we are all ready to say bye to the monotonous kitchen that we have at home.
The first Biophilic kitchen made from organic, eco-friendly components like wood and other natural materials which are sustainable. Kutchina provides more than 150 colour palettes for the kitchen.
Social kitchen is a concept with 2 islands — one for the cooking equipment and the other for the family to sit around and share their stories and meals. This is the kitchen where you can cook, serve food to your guests and socialise.
Technically advanced kitchen with aesthetic design and intelligent built-in appliances like oven, microwave oven, fryer, dishwasher, fridge etc.
Kitchens of India has the entire look and feel of Indian kitchens with a traditional touch but with modern amenities. Whether a Bengali, Punjabi, Kashmiri or Keralite Kitchen, one can choose the special style and Kutchina will have it custom-designed for you.
Nita Bajoria, design director of Kutchina
“Kutchina is basically known for kitchen appliances like chimneys and also we have been into modular kitchens for a long period of time. The idea of The Signature Studio came into action because people’s lifestyle is changing and they want something stylish yet convenient for which they have to spend a lot of money to import from abroad. Kutchina kitchens provide the best solution for all modern homemakers,” said Namit Bajoria (in picture), managing director of Kutchina. “I wanted a space where designs could be cultured between clients and my designers to curate kitchen designs that would reflect both aesthetics as well as the lifestyle of the client. For this, we have introduced a few new concepts such as Social, Biophilic, Indian kitchen etc. to match up with different kinds of client aspirations and needs,” added Nita Bajoria, design director of Kutchina.
