The idea was conceived from the love for Bengali music. Dubai-based entrepreneur Randeep Bhattacharya wanted to keep such music alive and that’s what led him to launch a ‘made in India’ karaoke app. January 28 marked the date of the launch of StarManch Karaoke at Rosewood Banquet in The Park where Randeep unveiled the first look with music composer Joy Sarkar and poet-lyricist Srijato Bandopadhyay.
Not only did the three launch the app, they also announced a talent hunt which will be conducted on the app. Users must perform karaoke and the winner will get a chance to release their own music album, composed by Joy Sarkar with lyrics written by Srijato Bandopadhyay.
The Telegraph was present at the launch.

“This is the first Indian karaoke app. Randeep loves Bengali music and after meeting him I understood how great his love was. For four years he researched and developed this app and he wanted it to start with Bengali. That’s where Srijato and I came in. There will be old Bengali songs as well as new which Srijato and I will put together,” said Joy Sarkar.
“I was always thinking of Bengali music and I wanted to do something for it because when I grew up, it was at its prime. But slowly that disappeared; we were forgetting about the richness of Bengali music. After 2000 there was a small revival but again it died down. So we have to be stable, we have to get new talents. So that is how the thought came about and the best way to do it is through a karaoke app,” said Randeep Bhattacharya, CEO, StarManch Pvt Ltd.
“The target audience for this app is mainly young users who want to sing. But for the talent hunt, we are keeping the age limit flexible, so anyone can join. One of the first things Randeep wanted was to create was a song bank which is not done a lot here, so those songs will be there along with the songs that we are composing for the talent hunt. So far, only Joy and I are involved but soon we would like to include other artistes,” said Srijato Bandopadhyay.
