Handling a Twitter account takes time and let’s not get into the many Meta products. Now it appears that Meta is exploring plans for a Twitter rival. The company has made it clear that they are simply “exploring” and nothing has been finalised.
Meta has confirmed the development of a decentralised text-based app. “We’re exploring a standalone decentralised social network for sharing text updates. We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests,” a Meta spokesperson has told Reuters.
According to reports from Platformer, the project is being overseen by Instagram head Adam Mosseri and the legal department is looking at different privacy concerns.
There is an opportunity for Meta to offer a new product because many users are looking for an alternative while a rival product, Mastodon, has seen plenty of upticks. Twitter is finding it difficult to hold on to its advertising base and the platform’s decision to reinstate a number of suspended accounts hasn’t been received well. With Meta’s investments in the metaverse not amounting to enough revenues right away, the company might as well look at building new products.
