After Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a name change for the social network’s parent company on October 28, Netizens went crazy.
The official announcement:
“We are a company that builds technology to connect. The name Facebook doesn’t fully encompass all the different businesses of the company today and is closely associated with only one product. Meta reflects who we are and what we hope to build,” said Zuckerberg at the company’s connect event — a live-streamed virtual and augmented reality conference.
The parent company’s name may have changed but its apps — Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Whatsapp — will retain the original names.
