Badam badam, kacha badam.” If the song is stuck in your head, you’re not alone. The viral sensation that is the Kacha badam song continues to make people groove to its peppy beats. The creator of the song, Birbhum resident Bhuban Badyakar, used the jingle to sell his wares of peanuts. One video on social media later, his humble jingle has gripped the nation and turned into a netizen-favourite dance challenge. Celebrities from around the world danced to the tune, and recently Kacha Badam went international with French Instagram star Jika adding his own flair to it.

Badyakar has become a household name, and was felicitated today by the Director General of West Bengal Police – M. Malaviya – in Kolkata.

If you have been bobbing your head to the tune, or doing a little jig and thinking about taking up the dance challenge, here’s some inspiration for you:


Haryanvi singer Amit Dhull’s Kacha Badam-inspired Haryanvi remix, which he created in collaboration with Badyakar, features several of these social media routines and has social media influencer Nisha Bhatt, adding her own dance style to the number. The now-familiar Internet phenomenon and erstwhile peanut vendor is seen grooving to his own beats.

Everyone’s favourite ‘Shooter Dadi’ Prakashi Tomar, also joined the trend, dancing with two young girls assumed to be her granddaughters.

Among the other celebrities on the dancing challenge top list is popular choreographer Ganesh Acharya, who showed off his skills along with his students. Interestingly, Acharya’s own choreographed numbers Oo Antava and Srivalli from Allu Arjun starrer Pushpa: The Rise, have their own viral dance challenges.

In fact, Srivalli has reached foreign shores with many international influencers singing the song and dancing to the tune. Among the most recent is a Korean woman who shared a video of her attempted hook step of the song, and nailing the move. She was also dressed very similar to Allu Arjun’s character in the film. The video posted on the Korean G1 page, has since amassed over 2 lakh views.
