It’s only a matter of time before iOS 16.4 gets pushed out to users of the iPhone. There will be plenty of updates, including new emoji. Developers and some beta testers have been using these features and it looks impressive. Since this is beta software programme, we recommend you experience it on a spare iPhone until the final update is officially pushed out.

The new emoji list includes a new smiley, new animals (like a moose and a goose) and new heart colours (pink and light blue).

Web push notification

There will be opt-in support for web-based push notification support via Safari on the iPhone. It will help users to receive notifications from websites through Safari, similar to notifications sent from App Store apps. Of course, you will have full power as to what notifications show up on your phone.

Podcasts app

There will be a new Channels menu in the Podcasts app to offer a list of podcast channels all in one place on the iPhone. As for the Up Next queue, it will include episodes listeners have saved to their Library.

Beta software updates

Developers and beta testers can check whether their Apple ID is associated with the developer beta, public beta or both.

Curl animation

Apple removed the curling animation while flipping pages in iOS 16. It returns with iOS 16.4. When you visit Apple Books settings, you’ll see a new Page Turn Animation tab with three options — slide, curl and none.

Mastodon messages

Mastodon continues to onboard new users and with the update you will notice better integration. If someone sends you a post, the app will show a rich preview; there will be more details.
