Amar Boshonto, the new streetwear collection from fashion stylist Anupam Chatterjee’s label Warssi Kolkata, is simple and wearable with a hint of style on a cheerful colour palette. Including handwoven and handloom fabrics like cotton, khadi and linen, the collection consists of his signature anti-fits, asymmetrical and easy-to-wear outfits.
“My inspiration for this collection was the colours of spring, the fresh blooms and my city Calcutta, where I grew up. Which is why, we shot the collection against the backdrop of some heritage architecture of Calcutta,” said Anupam, who has been styling as a professional for the past 17 years and started designing outfits 10 years back in his design workshop with a tailoring unit to help him in his styling for fashion shoots, shows and advertisements. His studio is housed at 40, Debendra Ghosh Road in Bhowanipore,
(L-R) On Kutubuddin, a peach khadi linen trouser and shirt paired with a conductor bag. On Udit, a pista green asymmetric shirt with box pleats on the sleeves, paired with a scarf and cropped trousers. Iqbal dressed simple in a dark green shirt and trousers.
Elaborating on the design detailing incorporated in the collection, Anupam said, “My individual style has always been very different, mostly boxy clothes and trousers. The collection consists of that along with de-modified low-shoulder kurta, oversized shirts, trousers, jumpsuits that are all ready-to-wear street-style silhouettes. Since the very beginning I have worked with handloom and handwoven fabrics and maintain that till today. I mostly design anti-fit clothes, so I came up with the brand name ‘Warssi’ four years back, named after a Sufi God. My style sensibilities resemble the style of clothes worn by them.”
The collection consists of the trendy tone-on-tone solid-colour outfits in pastel as well as bright hues that can be worn as sets or paired with complementing separates. “I have kept the collection affordable. Since I am a Calcutta-based stylist, I have worn such clothes on Calcutta streets while doing my job in the city. People can really connect with my clothes and it is designed as regular wear. The collection is aimed at college-goers and youngsters,” Anupam added.
