McDonald's has been her craving and she feels "pregnancy is the biggest eye-opener" for your health. A chat with fashion designer Anushree Brahmbhatt of Label Anushree on her pregnancy realisations and more.
What did you learn about your health during your pregnancy journey?
Pregnancy is the biggest eye-opener for your health. I've been vegan, following a certain diet from the start and doing yoga. It helped me carry forward the pregnancy more easily, continuing the same lifestyle, which made it very smooth.
How has your journey been?
Touchwood, my journey has been great! There are days when you feel more tired and overwhelmed (especially at the very start and end of the pregnancy) but that’s all a part of the journey and we have to work around our new body's demands!
What have been the most challenging days?
The most challenging days have been staying away from coffee! Being a caffeine addict, it was hard to cut down on coffee on some days. The withdrawal was real!
What kind of adjustments have you had to make in your fitness routine?
So, I just had to change my yoga routine as per the pregnancy yoga exercises and I started walking every evening to stay away from heartburn and to get better sleep!
What kind of dietary adjustments have you had to make?
I have added more protein for sure! Milk and eggs and of course seasonal fruits are my favourite snacks and green vegetables for my meals.
What were you absolutely not prepared for?
Well, sleepless nights. Insomnia in pregnancy is real.
We almost never talk about mental health during pregnancy. What would you like to tell all the moms-to-be?
So important! Mental health is everything. We are so sensitive and overwhelmed during this time that it’s best to speak your mind out to your partner or your close ones and surround yourself with people who make you feel happy. It makes a lot of difference.
When your body is undergoing such massive changes, what kind of support is absolutely imperative?
Well, support from your partner through all these changes makes the journey more normal. And I feel like consulting a nutritionist and qualified pregnancy trainer to rightly guide you through it is important.
Let’s talk about food cravings. What did you indulge in without thinking about calories?
McDonald’s! A big fat happy meal was my major craving!
And, finally, how do you think you’ll react when the baby will be in your arms?
I can’t even think of that moment. Can’t imagine it yet. Will know once I know!
