Kolkata director’s ‘The Red Files’ based on true incidents

The film has well-known names like Mumtaz Sorcar and Bidipta Chakraborty in the cast

The Red Files, a Bengali film based on the Bantala rape case of 1990, was released on March 19. My Kolkata is the digital partner of the film.

The cast of the film directed by Kinghsuk Dey includes Mumtaz Sorcar, who plays the role of police officer Priti Rao, along with Bidipta Chakraborty, who is a lawyer in the film. The Red Files also stars Kinjal Nanda, Doyel Roy Nandy and newcomers Taniqsha Roy and Abhirup Chowdhury.

“We had been working on the project since mid-2022 and we finished shooting in 2023. I play a police officer, one of the protagonists,” said

Abhirup. Taniqsha plays a criminal psychologist in the film.

Dey has also written the script, screenplay and dialogues of the film. “I have shown the 1990 Bantala incident as well as an incident from 2022. The film captures two timelines, and I have related the two time spans in the film,” he said.

The trailer of the film was released on March 14.

The music of the film is scored by Soumya Rit. Papon, Nachiketa Chakraborty and Lagnajita Chakraborty have sung the songs.

The film has been produced by Meenu Parekh and Nilesh Parekh under the banner of BlueBerries Entertainment. Sanjukta Deb Roy has done the production design, costume design and was the creative director of the film. She also helped the director during the research of the film.

The film is currently screening at Priya cinema on Rashbehari Avenue at 6.25pm.
