Research shows that the world’s densest bones belong to gymnasts who absorb force many times their body weight when they land on their feet. But you need not go into gymnastic contortions just yet. Special wellness centre OsteoStrong helps improve bone density with specialised resistance machines, based on this concept. And you have to spend only about 10 minutes per week for better bone health, posture, balance and flexibility. This biohack has yielded striking and documented results in many parts of the world.

The global American brand has found its first India address at 7 Loudon Street, near Belle Vue Clinic. It has a 4,500 sq ft-space, open from 7 am to 9 pm (subject to lockdown restrictions).

The Concept

OsteoStrong was founded in Texas in 2012 by biomechanics engineer John Jaquish and world-renowned life coach Tony Robbins is associated with it. It offers a routine, on proprietary equipment, that is short, sweat-free and painless. It is designed for people of any age and a range of fitness levels--athletes looking to improve performance, those with pain or posture issues, and seniors who suffer from arthritis.

Chetan Todi, owner of OsteoStrong India, has appointed a team of highly qualified physiotherapists and imported the high-end American equipment that is used at the brand’s centres around the world.

How it started

Todi’s journey with the brand kicked off in 2019, when his brother, Rishi, went to Singapore for an event by world-renowned life coach Tony Robbins, who is associated with OsteoStrong. “The owners of OsteoStrong came down to Kolkata later that year for a meeting with us. We were glad to bring their brand’s value to India, which has a large population suffering from osteoporosis and osteopenia. I went to the USA and my brother went to Sweden and Australia, where we spoke to doctors and physiotherapists. We had a positive experience with the equipment, and decided to come onboard,” he said.

What members get

To start their OsteoStrong journey, customers can simply call-in and book a ‘discovery session’. “We ask first-timers to fill in the wellness and health assessment form, in order to better understand their fitness levels and goals, what they wish to achieve from the programme and why,” Todi said.

Inside the centre, the spectrum zone is equipped with vibrating plates that activate the body in a warm up. Customers can then proceed to the four-growth trigger machines, which help in enhancing bone density in the upper and lower parts of the body, besides the core and posture. The space is designed in keeping Covid-19 protocols and social distancing.

The centre also has regenerative features such as the Hydro Massage, which uses waves of pressured heated water to enhance blood flow and alleviate muscle soreness after exercise. Normatec Boots, used regularly by top athletes such as Gareth Bale, maximise recovery in the legs and reduce muscle fatigue.

OsteoStrong also provides Red Light Therapy that not only improves bone healing but is known to strengthen immunity and improve sleep quality. The OMNI PEMF mat improves circulation and accelerates healing.

Todi tried the product he wanted Kolkata to benefit from. “First I noticed a spike in energy, followed by better balance and posture. By the fourth session, I felt an improvement in my strength and flexibility too,” he said. However, Todi’s launch plans were delayed by COVID-19. Now he’s excited about the next leg of OsteoStrong, with branches in Delhi and Mumbai also in the works. He is also exploring potential centres in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal, having acquired exclusive rights for all three countries.
