Zaranj, the Calcutta landmark for North-West Frontier cuisine now brings to the city - Platinum Dining, a 1,500sq ft space in the heart of Calcutta. Equipped with a private marble bar, private butler service, a regal dining room and mosaic dinnerware encased in copper cases, Platinum Dining serves as the venue for any celebration and can play host to multiple occasions such as themed soirees and dinners, birthdays, anniversaries, events, exhibitions, corporate seminars, conferences, intimate engagements, business meetings, ladies luncheons and more.
Another avatar of the space is home to a revolving lineup of guest chef collaborations, workshops and curated F&B events. It is a dedicated venue providing elevated dining experiences in Calcutta, perfect for chefs to showcase curated Table D’Hote menus.
t2 stopped by at the launch party that saw guests from different walks of life come together and enjoy a delightful Awadhi menu by chef Sima, who will also be the first chef table to showcase at Platinum Dining later this week.
The space also has an additional bar area that can serve as a reception zone. Here too the woodwork bar, marble countertop, big bold chairs and couches in leather add to the mood.
The first chef’s table at Platinum Dining, curated by Gormei, is Nazakat-e-Awadh, a curated Awadhi fine dining experience with Chef Sima Ahmed (in picture). Tracing her culinary roots to ancient Yemen, Chef Sima takes diners on a journey across Central Asia, the Silk Route, the Ottoman Empire and the refined delicacies of her native Faizabad, the ancient capital of Awadh. Recreating long-forgotten recipes and the Awadhi nazakat of her ancestors, Sima presents a delightful eightcourse feast fit for nobility and connoisseurs. “Chef Sima’s Awadhi dishes have the kind of finesse and refinement rarely savoured nowadays. We are thrilled to bring this culinary experience, redolent of Awadhi tehzeeb and nazakat to the splendid new Platinum Dining space,” said Argha Sen, founder, Gormei.
“At Platinum Dining the whole idea is to curate experiences with food as the central theme. Chef Sima treated us to a variety of her specialities and along with her stories, made the evening a very special one. The guests present at the table especially curated for the preview made the evening even more eclectic, the music was perfect, and all in all a great evening with some great food and the best people from the city,” said Tina Mukherjee, co-host, Nazakat-e-Awadh.
“Platinum Dining represents the next step in taking the torch forward, continuing the legacy that my father, Deepak Khullar - the visionary behind Calcutta’s first fine-dining restaurant - Zaranj, started. It is a tribute to his pioneering spirit and commitment to delivering exceptional culinary experiences. With Platinum Dining, we aim to exceed the expectations of discerning epicureans by offering a truly luxurious and immersive dining experience. It is an honour to build upon my father’s foundation and bring forth a product that upholds the highest standards of hospitality and gastronomy in Calcutta. Giving you limited edition experiences that are aimed to ignite curiosity, be educative and most of all entice one’s palate. Chef Sima showcases the nuanced spiced blends and flavours of Awadhi cuisine in her food. Our guests must experience this on July 28 and 30,” said Raghav Khullar, culinary director of Platinum Dining.
