Varish Mohta shines at Protouch Juniors at Tollygunge Club

More than 40 junior golfers showcased their skills over two days

Tollygunge Club witnessed an exhilarating showcase of young golfing talent during the fifth leg of the IGU East Zone Junior Feeder Tour 2024, known as the Protouch Juniors, held between May 22 and 23. The event saw participation from over 40 junior golfers, all competing with remarkable enthusiasm and skill. Kolkata's own Varish Mohta emerged as the standout performer, clinching the title in the A & B Boys’ division with an impressive two-over-par 142, with rounds of 70 and 72. His consistent performance not only secured him the top spot in the A & B Boys’ division but also crowned him the winner of the B division.

Following Mohta, Rehan Naidu posted scores of 79 and 77, totaling 156 to finish second in both the A & B Boys’ and the B division. In the C Boys’ division, Aranyak Chakraborty demonstrated exceptional prowess, winning with a commendable score of 154 (76 and 78), the second-best score among all boys’ divisions. Arkaprovo Chaudhury secured the runner-up position with a score of 167. The D Boys’ division saw Daiwik Naidu triumph with a total score of 190 (94 and 96), while Ayaan Mimani finished in second place.

Among the girls, Dhanvi Patel dominated the A & B Girls’ category with a score of 179, showcasing her growing potential in the sport. In the D Girls’ division, Vaanya Rustagi claimed victory with a total of 206, followed by Hissi Besra, who finished with a score of 235. The youngest competitors also displayed impressive talent, with Jayansh Lakhotia winning the F category with a score of 96, and Rasmeet Khanuja securing second place with 102. A special recognition was given to Rajdeep Paul, who was awarded the best score in the Special category, further highlighting the inclusive spirit of the tournament. H.S. Bindra, vice-captain of the Tollygunge Club, came to encourage participants and give away the prizes.

The Protouch Juniors event at the Tollygunge Club not only provided a platform for young golfers to compete but also underscored the rising talent in the region. The IGU East Zone Junior Feeder Tour continues to foster and showcase the promising future stars of Indian golf. The tour’s education partner is The Champ for Life Academy. The outdoor media partner is Balaji Ads, and the online proshop partner is Golfedge. Bisleri has come in as the water partner for this season.
