The largest and oldest junior golf competition in India returns to Tollygunge Club after two years with 18 schools across the country vying for golfing supremacy. Scheduled to take place on March 24 and 25, the Inter School Golf Championship, in association with digital partner My Kolkata, had been organised every year since 2005 until the pandemic of Covid-19 led to a postponement of the tournament in 2020 as well as 2021.
As the tournament springs back into life in 2022, its participants will compete across six different divisions- open category under 9 years, open category under 13 years, open category over 13 years, under 9 years for girls, under 13 years for girls and over 13 years for girls. The Fourball Better Ball (4BBB) stroke play format will be uniform across all divisions of the tournament.
The pristine conditions of Tollygunge Club, which recently hosted the prestigious Players Championship Trophy as part of the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), will once again be the venue for India’s prodigious golfers to showcase their skills. At the Players Championship Trophy that concluded earlier in March, Australia’s Cameron Smith emerged as the winner with India’s Anirban Lahiri finishing in second place. For many of the young golfers taking to the course this week, the dreams of one day playing on the PGTI will feel more real should they manage to stand out among the best schools in the country.

The past few editions of the Inter School Golf Championship have produced several winners who have risen to take their place among India’s top senior golfers, including the likes of Viraj Madappa, Siddhi Kapoor, Udayjit Bhalotia, Sunit Chowrasia, among others.
The Inter School Golf Championship is in partnership with Muskaan, a pan-India initiative of Prabha Khaitan Foundation (PKF) and the Education For All Trust aimed at promoting skill development among children through webinars, courses and workshops. Muskaan seeks to popularise culture and heritage literature among Indian youth by weaving it into the formal and informal education system. This is done by engaging students in diverse activities like cultural programmes, story-telling, theatre, dance, music and art. Muskaan also supports needy and marginalised students by providing them with tuition/coaching classes, stationery and study materials, distributing nutritious food and providing basic hygiene amenities.
The outdoor media partner for The Inter School Golf Championship is Balaji Ads and the tournament is organised and managed by Protouch Sports.
