Sukalyann D Entourage presented its annual cultural programme Parikraman 23 on the evening of October 14 at Rabindra Sadan. An audio-visual treat for audiences, it featured dance dramas and innovative choreographic pieces (concept, choreography and direction: Sukalyan Bhattacharya) on themes celebrating divine power, human virtues, national integration and more. Eminent performing artistes from diverse fields including dance, music, acting and others were also felicitated as part of the event.

Mahamaya, the first production to be staged that evening, was an ode to Goddess Durga, symbolised as Mother India. It paid homage to the divine love, power and wisdom at the same time celebrating Durga as the restorer of good and vanquisher of evil. She is also portrayed as the lover of Lord Shiva, unveiling an aspect of the Goddess rarely portrayed in the realm of the performing arts.

Shaat Bhai Champa, presented by the children of Sukalyann D Entourage, depicted the familiar, well-loved fairy tale by Dakshinaranjan Mitra Majumder about a childless king and his seven queens. It was colourfully brought to life through ingenious choreographic devices by Bhattacharya.

This was followed by a Bharatanatyam performance (choreographed by Sourav Chatterjee) beginning with a Ganesh Slokam, along with Pushpanjali, in which the dancers offered flowers in praise of Lord Ganesha, the destroyer of all obstacles. It ended with a thillana dedicated to Lord Padmanava Swami Narayan, invoking his blessings to the royal family of Trivankur.

Miley Sur Mera Tumhara was a performance that celebrated India’s Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by paying tribute to the beautiful and glorious diversity of our country. Choreographed in fusion style in classical and semi-classical forms, it brilliantly portrayed the concept of unity in diversity through clusters of performances that beautifully blended with and complemented one another.
