The recently concluded CFL Amateur Open, part of the Indian Golf Union East Zone Amateur Tour 2023, took place at Tollygunge Club between August 2 and 4. This event was significant as a counting event for the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). With 25 top amateurs participating across four different age categories, the tournament showcased remarkable talent and fierce competition.
The tournament began on a challenging note, with the first round being affected by rain in Kolkata. As a result, the initial 18-hole round was reduced to a 13-hole round. However, the amateur golfers exhibited determination and skill, managing to deliver commendable performances despite the adverse weather conditions.
In a thrilling display of golfing prowess, Rudraksha Banerjee emerged as the victor, clinching the CFL Amateur title with a score of one over par. Following closely, Ramayush Ray secured the second position, finishing with a score of two over par across two rounds of golf. Rudraksha Banerjee's exceptional performance continued as he secured victory in the WAGR category, completing three rounds with a score of two over par. Ramayush Ray, once again, displayed his proficiency by securing the second position in the WAGR category with a score of three over par across three rounds.

In the Mid-Amateur category, Sumit Kakkar exhibited his golfing prowess, claiming victory with a score of 25 over par in two rounds. Amit Kumar Saraogi secured the second position, finishing with a score of 29 over par in the same number of rounds. Meanwhile, in the Super Senior category, Ashit Luthra emerged victorious with a score of 25 over par, closely followed by Sumit Banerjee, who finished second with a score of 26 over par.
The Ladies category witnessed an exceptional performance by Gourabi Bhowmick, who clinched victory in both the Feeder Tour and WAGR categories. She achieved this feat with a score of nine over par in two rounds and 13 over par in three rounds. Fizza Ali secured the second position in the Ladies category.

The tournament provided an incredible platform for emerging and established amateur golfers to showcase their talents. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the participants delivered a series of impressive performances, leaving spectators and enthusiasts captivated by their dedication and skill on the golf course.
