Punjab’s Mannat Brar emerged victorious in both the A Girls’ and Ladies categories, clinching the overall title at the 2024 IGU Eastern India Ladies & Junior Girls Golf Championship held at Tollygunge Club between April 17 and 19. Battling scorching heat, Brar displayed remarkable prowess, finishing with a seven over-par 217 (74-71-72) to claim the coveted title.
In a closely contested tournament, Anuradha Chaudhuri from Maharashtra secured the second position with a score of 218, closely followed by UP’s Zara Anand at 219. The competition witnessed a hard-fought battle among the participants, who showcased their skill and determination amidst challenging conditions.
Chandigarh’s Guntas Kaur Sandhu clinched victory in the B Category with a total score of 225. Haryana’s Yogya Bhalla secured the second position with 231, while Karnataka’s Dia Cris Kumar finished third with 232, narrowly edging out West Bengal’s Mehak Lohan with a superior third-round performance.
In the C Girls’ category, Rajasthan’s Ojaswini Saraswat emerged victorious with a score of 231, followed by Delhi’s Anushka Gupta at 234 and Haryana’s Naina Kapoor at 244.
Reflecting on the tournament, Prantor Baruah, the tournament director, expressed his satisfaction with the turnout despite the challenging weather conditions. He remarked: “It’s very encouraging to see that even in this extreme hot weather, 78 girls took part in the tournament. It augurs well for the future of Indian golf.”
