La Martiniere schools continue their winning streak at the 20th Inter-School Golf Championship

The 20th Inter-School Golf Championship concluded at Tollygunge Club on October 17 after two days of riveting action. Both rounds of the tournament saw over 100 budding golfers, representing more than 20 schools across India, showcase their skills. While the first round on day one was conducted in a Texas Scramble format, the second and final round was conducted in a Four Ball Better Ball format. Throughout the two rounds, the participants were divided into six age categories.

Ahaan Gupta and Viranca Poddar from La Martiniere for Boys triumphed in the over-13 overall category. Although they had trailed in the first round with a score of one over par, they ended the second round with an impressive score of three under 70. This culminated into a total score of two under 138, which secured the trophy for them.

Anaahat Bindra and Ishikha Bansal from La Martiniere for Girls clinched victory in the over-13 girls’ category with a score of 146, capitalising on their lead after round one. Playing a challenging second round, which they ended with a 75, their team work led them to the winners’ trophy.

Ujaan Chakraborty and Aranyak Chakraborty from Future Foundation School won the first position in the under-13 overall category. Following their leading score of one over par from the first round, they trailed to score a 75 in the second round, resulting in them scoring a total of 145.

A fierce contest characterised the under-13 girls’ category, between Nahida Parvin and Julinka Roy Chowdhury. The winning position was decided on the basis of two consecutive and exciting play-offs. Ultimately, Nahida Parvin (83-86) clinched victory with a total score of 169.

Both under-9 overall and under-9 girls’ categories played nine holes in the first and second rounds. At the end of the second round, Aayansh Prasad and Jayansh Lakhotia from La Martiniere for Boys scored a 39 and ended the tournament with a total score of 77. Meanwhile, Advika Agarwal and Aaira Khaitan from the under-9 girls’ category won with a total score of 95, after ending the second round’s nine holes with a 47.

Armaan Tekriwal and Prashant Agarwal from La Martiniere for Boys scored a total of 142 at the end of the final round. Though they made a competitive start with a level par on the first round, they played two over in the second round, and secured the position of the first-runner up in the over-13 overall category. Arghya Shah and Shaurya Bhatnagar, also from La Martiniere for Boys, scored an even par on the first day but scored a 73 in the second round, thereby securing a total of 143. They went on to become the second-runner up in the over-13 overall category.

Aarav Kapoor and Krishiv Kedia from the over-13 overall category, representing La Martiniere for Boys, who had scored a one under 70 in the first round, secured the fourth position with a total score of 144 at the end of round two. Lakshya Agarwal and Shaurya Vardhan Saraogi, from Calcutta International School, who had secured the highest score of three under 70 in the first round, ended in fifth position with a total score of 145.

Samaira Chitlangia from Modern High School International played a better second round to put up a tough fight to the team effort put by Anaahat Bindra and Ishikha Bansal, and secured the second position in the Over-13 girls’ category with a total score of 158. Dhanvi Patel from Modern High school for Girls secured the third position from the aforementioned category with a total score of 171.

The teamwork of Krishiv Rungta and Aryaveer Agarwal from La Martiniere for Boys remained consistent even in the final round in which they secured a total of 149 to win the second position in the Under-13 overall category. Ayaan Mimani and Hrian Khem, also from the same school, secured the third position from the aforementioned category with a total of 159.

The enthralling play-off between Nahida Parvin and Julinka Roy Chowdhury resulted in the win of Julinka Roy Chowdhury of Bhavan Gangabaux Kanoria Vidyamandir from the Under-13 girls’ category. Vaanya Rustagi and Vaasvi Himatsingka from Modern High School for Girls scored a 188 to secure the third position in the under-13 girls’ category. Meanwhile, Naina Dinodiya and Ojaswini Sarkar’s partnership from the same school led them to secure the fourth position with the same score from the aforementioned category.

Yugaansh Agarwal and Aativeer Jain from RP Goenka International School scored a total of 82 after playing nine holes, and secured the second position in the under-9 overall category. Yashveer Ahuja and Priyansh Tulsyan from La Martiniere for Boys scored a total of 84, and secured the third position from the above-mentioned category.

Anwita Sinha from Modern High School for Girls scored a 100 after playing nine holes in both the rounds and secured the second position in the under-9 girls’ category. Ruhi Nayar from La Martiniere School Girls scored a total of 121 and secured the third position in the aforementioned category.

While Anaahat Bindra and Ishikha Bansal (146) from La Martiniere for Girls also secured the sixth position in the over-13 overall category, Andrew Baid and Sartaj Singh Chandok (151) from La Martiniere for Boys won the seventh position in the aforementioned category. In the under-13 overall category, prizes were also given to Arkaprovo Chaudhury (163), who secured the fourth position, Julinka Roy Chowdhury (169) for a better second round and for securing the fifth position, Nahida Parvin (169) for securing the sixth position, and Siddharth Shroff and Hridit Khem (183) from La Martiniere for Boys for securing the seventh position.

Advika Agarwal and Aaira Khaitan (95), Anwita Sinha (100), RP Goenka’s Rihaan Fogla and Riaan Veer Sethi (107), and Future Foundation School’s Kiaan Chakraborty (117) also won prizes for securing the fourth, fifth, sixth and the seventh positions respectively in the under-9 overall category.

In the over-13 overall category, Siddhanth Singhania from Army Public School scored an 82 and an 89 at the end of the first and the second rounds, respectively. He scored a total of 171, and went on to receive the award for the Best Outstation Team Boys. The pair of Shravya Mehrotra and Indala Rachna Satsangi, from Timpany School, Visakhapatnam, and Shaili Ganta from Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam, who played solo, scored a total of 190 and 193, respectively and won the award for being the Best Outstation Team Girls.

The team of Aryaman Rungta and Aagam Abhishek Doshi from Loyola School, Jamshedpur, and Arihant Joshi, representing Army Public School, Gopalpur, scored 193 and 196, respectively in the Under-13 overall category. Ahana Khaitan from the RP Goenka International School (216) and Arrham Jain from La Martiniere for Boys (156 with partner Manan Bagrecha) won awards for being the most improved players from the girls and the boys’ categories, respectively.

Among the guests who felicitated the budding golfers during the prize distribution ceremony were Partha Sarathi Barman, president of Tollygunge Club; H.S. Bindra, captain of Tollygunge club; Brigadier V. Ganapathy, CEO of Tollygunge Club; and Abhishek Kejriwal, CEO of Balaji Ads.

The 20th Inter-School Golf Championship was partnered by Muskaan, a pan-India initiative by the Prabha Khaitan Foundation and the Education for All Trust, aiming to promote skill development among marginalised children and the youth of the country. The education partner for the event was George Protouch School of Sports, which is an exclusive sports education institute, aiming to impart the best quality sports education and provide a robust network of employment in the world of sports.

The water partner for the event was Bisleri, and Keventer provided juices and beverages throughout the Championship to all the participants. The outdoor media partner for the tournament was Balaji Ads, and the tournament was organised and managed by Protouch Sports.
