The 20th Inter-School Golf Championship, with My Kolkata as digital partner, commenced on October 16 at Tollygunge Club. Over 100 budding golfers, from more than 20 schools across India, gathered for the tournament that has long been the place for young talents to take the next step in their golfing journey.
On day one, the championship was conducted in the Texas Scramble format, with the participants divided into six categories.
Lakshya Agarwal and Shaurya Vardhan Saraogi, representing Calcutta International School, from the overall open category over 13 years, ended the first round with an impressive three under 70.
They were followed by Aarav Kapoor and Krishiv Kedia from La Martiniere for Boys, who finished the first round with one under par. Arghya Shah and Shaurya Bhatnagar, along with Armaan Tekriwal and Prashant Agarwal, also from La Martiniere for Boys, put up a tough competition against their schoolmates — tied for third position with an even par after the end of the first round.
Meanwhile, Anaahat Bindra and Ishikha Bansal, representing La Martiniere for Girls in the Over-13 girls category, ended the first round with one over 70. Samaira Chitlangia, from Modern High School International, played a solo match in the aforementioned category and ended with the second-leading score of 80 at the end of the first round. She faced a stern test from Dhanvi Patel of Modern High School for Girls, who also played solo and managed to score an 89 at the end of the first round.
Aranyak Chakraborty and Ujaan Chakraborty from the under-13 overall category represented Future Foundation School. Together, they ended the first round with one over par 71. In second place were Krishiv Rungta and Aryaveer Agrawal, from La Martiniere for Boys, who finished the first round with a 74. Ayaan Mimani and Hrian Khem from the same school scored a 77, good enough for third.
Nahida Parvin from Under-13 girls category, representing Delhi Public School Megacity, ended the first round with an 81. Julinka Roy Chowdhury, representing Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir, secured second spot with a score of 86. In third place were the duo of Naina Dinodiya and Ojaswini Sarkar, from Modern High School for Girls, who ended the final round with a 90.
The Under-9 overall and the Under-9 girls categories played nine holes in the inaugural round. In the first, Aayansh Prasad and Jayansh Lakhotia, from La Martiniere for Boys, put up a leading score of 38, followed by a score of 40 from Yugaansh Agarwal and Aativeer Jain, representing RP Goenka International School. The partnership of Yashveer Ahuja and Priyansh Tulsyan, from La Martiniere for Boys, was able to score the third-best score of 42.
The duo of Advika Agaarwal and Aaira Khaitan from RP Goenka International School led with a score of 48 after playing nine holes in the Under-9 girls category. Anwita Sinha and Ruhi Nayar played individually from Modern High School for Girls and La Martiniere for Girls, finishing day one in second and third with scores of 53 and 65, respectively.
Siddhanth Singhania, from Army Public School, Shillong, competing solo in the over-13 overall category, scored an 82 at the end of the first round. The pair of Shravya Mehrotra and Indala Rachna Satsangi from Timpany School, Visakhapatnam, and Shaili Ganta from Oakridge International School, Visakhapatnam, also played solo, and scored a 94 and 99, respectively. The team of Aryaman Rungta and Aagam Abhishek Doshi, from Loyola School, Jamshedpur, and Arihant Joshi, who played solo, representing Army Public School, Gopalpur, scored a 97 and 103, respectively in the under-13 overall category.
All eyes are now set on the second and final round of the competition on October 17. The 20th Inter-School Golf Championship is partnered by Muskaan, a pan-India initiative by the Prabha Khaitan Foundation and the Education for All Trust, aiming to promote skill development among marginalised children and the youth of the country.
The education partner for the event is George Protouch School of Sports, which is an exclusive sports educational institute, aiming to impart quality sports education and provide a robust network of employment in the world of sports. The water partner for the event is Bisleri, and Keventer is providing juices and beverages throughout the championship to all the participants. The outdoor media partner for the tournament is Balaji Ads, and the tournament is organised and managed by Protouch Sports.
