High court allows protest
Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj of the high court on Friday issued an interim order allowing the BJP to hold a rally and demonstration on July 26 against the hike of power tariff in Kolkata. The demonstration will be held from 2pm to 5.30pm, the court said. The BJP had planned a rally from its office in Muralidhar Sen Lane in the College Street area to Esplanade and hold a demonstration in front of Victoria House, the headquarters of CESC, a day after Trinamool s July 21 meeting. Police declined permission, prompting the BJP to move court. Justice Bharadwaj allowed the rally and the sit-in but within the stipulated time on July 26.
July 21 rally venue check
Police commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal visited the site of Trinamool’s July 21 rally at Esplanade and checked the arrangements that were being readied for chief minister Mamata Banerjee and other leaders. He also took stock of police readiness to handle the city’s traffic during the rally.
