Low pressure in Bay of Bengal

A low-pressure area has formed over the west-central and the adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, the Met office said on Thursday. "It is likely to get stronger and move northwestwards towards the Odisha coast over the next couple of days," said a Met official. The monsoon trough now passes through Gopalpur in Odisha into the system. Odisha will bear the maximum brunt of the system. But "light to moderate rainfall activity" has been predicted "at most places" of Bengal with "isolated heavy rain in some districts" over the next few days. The coastal districts of south Bengal are more likely to get heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday, said the official.

School meet

An association representing private unaided schools in Bengal affiliated to various boards had its inaugural session on Thursday. The West Bengal Association of Private Affiliated Schools, which was formed recently, seeks to bring together the managements of private schools across Bengal and is dedicated to "advocating for the autonomy and excellence of private schools." "The association looks forward to working... with its members to uplift educational standards and to provide a strong, unified voice for private-affiliated schools in the region," said secretary Ranjan Mitter. "The various associations that exist are mostly of principals. This one will cater to school managements and owners, who will bring to the table other issues that are not only academic," said Mousumi Saha, owner and principal, National English School.
