Kolkata Streetscape Carnival organised by Kalakaar Project and Shibmandir Sarbojanin was a kaleidoscope of vibrant sights, sounds and flavours that captured the true sense of contemporary Calcutta's culture and camaraderie. As the temperatures dropped in Calcutta at the end of January, the neighbourhood around Lake Temple Road in south Calcutta came alive with music, dance and performances showcasing the aesthetic side of the city. A lively and dynamic atmosphere greeted passersby and captivated audiences of all ages. From books and art pieces to candles and eatables, the carnival also hosted a plethora of stalls that added to its colour, fun and excitement.
The Kolkata Streetscape Carnival was also a celebration of community spirit and togetherness. Families, friends and couples gathered to enjoy and make memories as they explored the bustling streetscape. Highlights of the three-day carnival.
Actor-director Jayant Kriplani was spotted putting up a small act. Other performances lined up for the evening were dance, recitation, singing and many more.
The Rickshaw Walk by The Rickshaw Project was part of a social art drive conducted under the guidance and support of Radhika Singhi and her foundation, Annapurna Food Foundation in collaboration with Kalakaar Project. Ten rickshaw drivers were given new clothes, shoes and food. “Kalakaar Project, formed by a group of young enterprising girls contacted me for help. I suggested helping the rickshaw-wallahs by refurbishing and painting their rickshaws along with providing them with clothes. Also, we provided lunch to all involved with the project for three days. The project is one I would like to carry forward, by providing them with rainproof canvas and also giving them sports shoes before summer and monsoons,” said Radhika Singhi, founder of Annapurna Food Foundation.
