Art Retreat Moram: Tabla.inc x AIM hosted cultural fete centering folk forms of Bengal

It’s so important that the children of this generation can go back to the roots and rediscover our folk forms, something which they aren’t very exposed to in this fast-paced world,” said percussionist Pandit Tanmoy Bose

Uttam Das and team’s Bohurupi performance was a vibrant spectacle. The love from the younger generation was just another step to revive the dying art form of Bengal. The make-up, catchy rhymes and the entire transformation of the bohurupis into a mythological character encapsulated the art of polymorphism and engaged the kids who hadn’t ever experienced this kind of theatrics before.

It’s so important that the children of this generation can go back to the roots and rediscover our folk forms, something which they aren’t very exposed to in this fast-paced world,” said percussionist Pandit Tanmoy Bose about organising Art Retreat, along with AIM at Moram, an eco-tourism resort nestled amidst the lush greenery and scenic beauty of Bolpur. The two-day festival on February 3 and 4 saw myriad shades of the creative field, that took us back to our roots, rediscovering age-old folk forms, which have been lost in translation over the years. The children ardently followed whatever their beloved Guruji said, from relishing the fish prepared for them at Moram to soaking in the rustic beauty of rural Bengal, and waking up in the morning and focusing on the workshops that were held. t2 spent a wonderful time at Moram, making memories with the resident furry babies Lucy, Lisa, Noori and Rashi, watching the turkey, ducks, hens, and goats enjoy their time in the pond amidst nature and was rendered smitten over the colourful showcase of folk art forms like chhau (from Purulia), Bohurupi, pakhawaj, dasai dance, chadarbadar, khol badya, Taal Tarang by Tabla.inc, a special workshop on taal and laya conducted by Tanmoy Bose; the lac toy-making, pottery workshop and watching the locals use the dhenki to powder the separated rice from the grains (which we tried as well and totally loved) were the special add-ons of the cultural retreat.
