Several Jharkhand based students pursuing Medical and Engineering courses at various cities of the war ravaged Ukraine have appealed to the state government through their family seeking support for the repatriation to India.
Jhumri Telaiya, Koderma based, MBBS student, Md Shahrukh (23) who is currently at the house of a friend at Ukrainian Capital, Kiev along with four other Indian students has appealed for help to the chief minister Hemant Soren as well speaker of Jharkhand Assembly, Ravindranath Mahto through his elder brother Samir Ahmad at Jhumri Telaiya.
Talking to The Telegraph Online Samir Ahmad says, “My younger brother who is pursuing MBBS from Kiev International University has never returned ever since he left in 2017 as he is quite serious about studies."
“In the changed circumstances where the university has closed down and hostel is lying vacant, he along with other Indian students are keen to return to his homeland till the situation normalizes” said Ahmad and added that his entire family including his mother and two other brothers are very concerned about the safety of Shahrukh," he added.
“The positive side is this that we talk to him over phone on a regular basis as phone connections have not been snapped so far and we came to know that they are planning to leave Ukraine through Poland which is a five-hour road journey from Kiev and but he along with his friends are fearing to launch the road journey in absence of any security.” said Ahmad.
Ankit Rajgarhia a Dhanbad based social activist who sought government help in ensuring the return of Shahrukh as well as other Jharkhand students by tweeting to Hemant said, “The government should extend all support to our brothers and sisters lying in fearful state of affairs thousands of Kilometers away from their home land.”
Besides Shahrukh, several other students of the state including three of Godda including, Aditya Raj, son of Bishwanath Das; Shivam Kumar, son of Mahadev Panjiar and Rajvir Shah son of Ranjan Prasad and one student of Dumka, Aditya Kumar son of Rajvir Kumar who are pursuing MBBS from Ukraine are also lying trapped in Kiev.
Biswanath Das father of Aditya Raj also tweeted to the chief seeking support and the latter retweeted his post tagging Indian Embassy at Ukraine besides the external affairs minister S Jaishankar and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for extending support to Aditya Raj.
