Chess players from Jharkhand can look forward to refreshing their moves during lockdown as mentors will impart training sessions online.

Fifteen junior players from Ranchi, Seraikela-Kharsawan, Chatra, Ramgarh and West Singhbhum will train under Fide-certified trainers for free.

Fide stands for Fédération Internationale des Échecs, which literally translates into World Chess Federation.

Apart from these virtual training camps, Jharkhand’s only International Master Neeraj Kumar Mishra is imparting virtual lessons to 25 senior players from different districts in two separate batches. The first two online camps started on Monday with Mishra and Fide instructor Alka Das in charge.

“We are keen to impart online lessons to players during the lockdown. It is aimed at keeping them in tune with the game,” said Mishra, secretary of All Jharkhand Chess Association (AJCA), adding that the training will be for free.

According to him, the other scheduled camps for Ranchi will be conducted by Baisakhi Chatterjee Das, while national instructor Minisha Masi will take care of the one for Ramgarh. National instructor Basant Khandelwal will conduct the camp for Chatra, while the name of the coach for West Singhbhum will be decided soon.

Dates for these camps will be announced soon.

With all training centres shut across Jharkhand in the lockdown, AJCA has taken the onus to put the players back on the chessboard, but on computer screens.
