Chief minister Raghubar Das on Tuesday flagged off five raths from state BJP headquarters in Harmu, the vehicles meant to collect public opinion from all 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand to help prepare the party manifesto for general elections.

“Bharat ke Mann ki Baat, Modi ke Saath” is written beside a huge picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on each vehicle. The tagline at the bottom says, “Kaam kare jo, ummeed usi se ho (one has expectations only from the one who delivers)”.

Each van also has an LED screen and a box modelled on the old-fashioned ballot box. Citizens are expected to write what they want from the BJP, their ideas and suggestions, criticisms and observations, and place those inside the box. Additionally, they can dial 6357171717 to make their suggestions over phone, the number of which is printed on the side of each vehicle.

State BJP secretary Subodh Singh Guddu, entrusted to monitor the raths in Jharkhand along with a 28-member team comprising two persons from each Lok Sabha constituency, said they planned “to hit two birds with one stone”.

“The raths will keep moving for a month in all blocks coming under 14 Lok Sabha constituencies to inform people of what the Modi government has done in five years. Also, people will be asked for their opinion in writing to be placed in the ballot box-like container, or asked to call up the displayed number,” Guddu said.

Guddu said these five Jharkhand raths were among the 300 rolled by the BJP across India. “Our party has targeted collecting opinions of 10 crore people from across the country,” Guddu said. “We are asking for feedback so that we can prepare a true people’s manifesto for Lok Sabha poll.”

State BJP organising secretary Dharmpal Singh, state Khadi Board chairman Sanjay Seth and other party workers were present when the vehicles rolled out around 10.45am.
