The latest episode of The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 2 starred five
members from the T20 World Cup-winning squad — Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar
Yadav (SKY), Shivam Dube, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel. Let’s break the
episode down into sixers and singles.
SIXERS
Rohit’s scoop shot on World Cup final
This was the real high point of the episode. Hearing Rohit Sharma spill the tea on
India’s T20 World Cup win was a treat. From Rishabh Pant’s sneaky physio
delay tactic to slow things down and leave the South African batsmen fretting, to
the captain giving his boys full license to sledge (“say what you want, we’ll deal
with the match officials later”) when the runs:balls equation got tense for Team
India, this was pure cricketing and Kapil-show gold. Clearly, all is fair in our love
for cricket and Cup!
A game of dumb charades
Nothing spells ‘cricket fun’ like the team playing dumb charades with a twist.
Rohit trying to guess ‘MS Dhoni’ while Axar clumsily mimicked a six over long on
was great to watch. Luckily, SKY swooped in to save the day with a spot-on
Dhoni helicopter shot, leading to Rohit’s lightbulb moment. Dube’s clumsy
imitation of Virat Kohli also drew laughs. Again, SKY was on-point with
Harbhajan Singh’s bowling action. And Arshdeep did an easy-to-pick Jasprit
Bumrah.
Match the following film names and cricketers
Archana Puran Singh – for once – did more than just sit there and laugh out
loud(est). She hosted a mini-segment of calling out film names for the guests to
match those to team members. After some ribbing, both the Dabangg and
Ghajini titles belonged to Rohit Sharma, while the ‘Nautanki Saala’ crown sat on
Kuldeep Yadav’s head!
Shivam Dube’s smart captaincy reply
When Kapil tried to put Shivam Dube in a spot by asking him to choose between
M.S. Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings) and Rohit Sharma (Team India) as captain,
the big-hitting left-hander delivered a fine late cut by saying depending on which
team he was playing for, that captain was the best! This drew admiring applause
from the host, the captain and the full team.
SINGLES
In contrast with the easy banter of the cricketers on the couch, Team Kapil
appeared forced and unfunny. Soundous as trainee waiter, Jamie Lever as ‘Misri’
the AI robot (at least this was a fresh act for the show), Sunil Grover back as
Khali, Krushna Abhishek and Kiku Sharda in their repetitive act of Dharmendra
and Sunny Deol… all seemed to needlessly eat into our time with the cricketers
for more insights and laughs from them.
