Netflix on Thursday dropped the trailer for the upcoming road trip documentary Will & Harper, which made its debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. The documentary follows Will Ferrell as he embarks on a life-changing journey with Harper Steele, a longtime friend who recently came out as a trans woman.
Directed by Josh Greenbaum, Will & Harper is set to screen at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11. The documentary will open in select theatres in the US on September 13 and will be available for streaming on Netflix from September 27.
Ferrell first met Harper in 1995, during his early days at Saturday Night Live, where their friendship and creative collaboration blossomed. Now, nearly 30 years later, the two hit the road for an emotional cross-country trip as Harper reintroduces herself to the world.
The documentary captures their 16-day drive from New York to Los Angeles, where they revisit places that hold special meaning to their friendship and lives. Along the way, they share moments of laughter, reflection and vulnerability while confronting the evolving dynamics of their relationship. The film promises an intimate look at both personal and social transformation, with the pair exploring their bond in this new chapter.
Harper, a former SNL writer, is credited with shaping some of Ferrell’s most iconic characters during their seven-year stint together. Their latest collaboration came in 2020 with the comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.
