Why Rihanna had to leave India hours after her performance at Anant Ambani’s pre-wedding bash

Rihanna rushed back to the US hours after her performance at Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding bash in Jamnagar because of a reason related to her children, the pop star revealed in an Instagram live on Friday night.

The 36-year-old singer said she had “the best time”in India and promised to visit again in the video clip. “I had the best time in India. I only have two days. The only reason I am leaving India is because my kids.. (unclear audio). I have to come back,” Rihanna said during a brief live session with Melissa Forde on their way to the Jamnagar airport.

Forde, who is Rihanna’s best friend, accompanied the pop star to India for her performance at the Ambani pre-wedding bash, where she belted out an electric medley of her hit songs Diamonds, Rude Boy, Pour it Up and Where Have You Been.

The nine-time Grammy winner, whose ninth studio album is on the cards, asked fans to relax when they enquired about her new album in the live comments. “Who said album?” came the reply from Rihanna, while Melissa jokingly said, “Guys, one thing at a time.”

Social media posts reveal that a number of Bollywood A-listers, including Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukherji and Kareena Kapoor Khan, jetted off to Jamnagar to attend the three-day-long pre-wedding festivities.

A video shared by Bawaal actress Janhvi Kapoor shows her twerking with Rihanna on the track Zingaat from her debut film Dhadak (2018). Sharing a video of them dancing together on Instagram, Janhvi wrote, “This woman is a goddess. Stop it, goodbye.” Soon after the post, Rihanna wrote, “Love youuu” in the comments section, eliciting over 200 replies from fans.

Rihanna’s 2023 song Lift Me Up from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Song) category at the 96th Oscars, which will be held on March 11 (Indian standard time). The singer was also recently nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for her Apple Music Super Bowl 57 Halftime Show.
