Anubhav Sinha’s Tum Bin and Kamaleshwar Mukherjee’s Chander Pahar join the long list of old classics hitting the big screen again this year. Both films, though vastly different in genre and language, left a lasting impact on the audiences and are now poised for a new run from September 20.

Tum Bin, first released on July 13, 2001, won over audiences with its emotional plot and a soulful soundtrack. Directed by Anubhav Sinha and produced by Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under the T-Series banner, the film introduced a fresh cast: Priyanshu Chatterjee, Sandali Sinha, Himanshu Malik and Raqesh Bapat.

Tum Bin explores themes of love, loss and redemption. The plot follows Shekhar (Priyanshu), a man haunted by guilt after causing a tragic accident as he tries to atone by helping the family of the deceased. In the process, he forms a bond with the victim’s fiancée (Sandali).

One of the film’s lasting legacies is its soundtrack. Composed by the duo Nikhil-Vinay, songs like Koi Fariyaad, Tumhare Siva and the title track became instant classics.

Chander Pahar: An adventure saga

Directed by Kamaleswar Mukherjee and first released in 2013, Chander Pahar is an adaptation of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s novel of the same name. With groundbreaking cinematography by Soumik Haldar, Chander Pahar brought Africa’s wilderness to the big screen.

Starring Dev as the daring protagonist Shankar Roy Chowdhury, the film traces the adventures of a young Bengali who sets out for Africa in search of fortune and faces natural dangers, wild beasts, and the mythical ‘Mountain of the Moon’. SVF, the production banner behind the film, is re-releasing Chander Pahar to mark the 130th birth anniversary of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay.
