Colin Farrell plays underworld boss Penguin, who gets involved in a power struggle with Critstin Milioti’s Sophia Falcone to dominate the dark underbelly of Gotham City in a new trailer of the HBO limited series The Penguin.
Produced by Warner Bros Television and DC Studios, the eight-episode show will premiere on HBO on September 19. It will see Farrell continuing his role as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin from Matt Reeves’ The Batman (2022).
Dropped by the makers on Sunday, the two-minute-35-minute long trailer shows Oswald, a disfigured crime lord and former chief lieutenant to Carmine Falcone, facing new challenges as Sofia vies for control of the city’s underworld after her father’s demise. “The world ain’t set up for the honest man to succeed. America is a hustle,” Penguin says in the trailer.
Developed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, the series explores Cobblepot’s rise in Gotham City’s criminal world.
“Tear down the empire from the inside out. Academy Award nominee Colin Farrell is #ThePenguin in the new @HBO Original Limited Series, premiering September 19 on Max,” the streamer wrote on X while sharing the trailer.
The Penguin also features Clancy Brown, Michael Zegen, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, James Madio, Scott Cohen, Theo Rossi, Carmen Ejogo and François Chau in key roles.
