Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury desperately needs heroes to ward off the evil machinations of a new supervillain in the final trailer for The Marvels, which invokes nostalgia by showing glimpses of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’s Captain America.

Dropped by the makers on Tuesday, the two-minute-long trailer gives an insight into The Marvels, slated to hit theatres on November 10. The latest Marvel Studios addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is headlined by Brie Larson, Teynah Parris and Iman Vellani.

Nick Fury’s voiceover sets the tone for the trailer at the beginning as the former S.H.I.E.L.D director is heard saying, “Heroes, it’s an old fashioned notion. But the world can still use ‘em.” The voiceover is accompanied by flashbacks of Iron Man/Tony Stark and Captain America/Steve Rogers from previous films.

The flashbacks show memorable moments from Avengers: Endgame (2019), starting with a moment between Stark and Rogers before they time travel to get the infinity stones. They also show Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) joining forces with other female superheroes during the final battle. The final throwback moment in the trailer shows Iron Man wearing the Infinity Gauntlet before he snapped his fingers.

The trailer then introduces Dar-Benn, the latest MCU villain played by Zawe Ashton. She is shown wielding a hammer-like weapon known as the Universal Weapon, which is supposed to be mightier than Thor’s hammer. It is also revealed in the trailer that Dar-Benn gets her hands on Kamala Khan/Ms Marvel’s (Iman Vellani) amulet and tears a hole in space to take her army across the multiverse to destroy planets.

Both Photon and Captain Marvel can be seen going up against Dar-Benn only to fail at beating her. The video concludes with Kamala Khan falling from the sky. An unsure Monica Rambeau flies up to save her after Nick Fury reminds her of “black girl magic”.

Aside from Nick Fury, another MCU cameo shown in the trailer is of Tessa Thompson, who portrays Valkyrie.
