Warner Bros. India on Wednesday dropped the first-look images of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, an anime prequel to J.R.R Tolkien’s fantasy novel series.
“Meet the heroine and villain of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,’ the anime prequel about an important battle in the history of Rohan,” Warner Bros. India wrote alongside stills of lead characters from the upcoming anime film.
The anime film tells the story of Helm Hammerhand, the ninth King of Rohan who reigned during the Third Age. His rule was challenged by the Dunlendings who attempted to usurp the throne of Rohan.
The first picture features Helm’s daughter Hèra, who draws her sword and points it at an unknown enemy. Wulf, the film’s antagonist, who leads the armies of Dunlendings against Helm’s kingdom, appears in the second still.
“The untold story behind Helm's Deep, hundreds of years before the fateful war, telling the life and bloodsoaked times of its founder, Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan,” reads the official synopsis of the film as per IMDb.
The first 20 minutes of the film was recently unveiled by The Lord of the Rings star Andy Serkis at the Annecy Film Festival.
Directed by Ghost in the Shell helmer Kenji Kamiyama, the anime film is inspired by Tolkien’s novels as well as Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings movie adaptations.
