The Kerala Story has started to witness a decline in its collection after three weeks of successful run at the box office. The Adah Sharma starrer managed to collect Rs 3 crore nett on Day 21, taking its total earnings in India to Rs 213 crore nett.
Directed by Sudipto Sen, The Kerala Story had collected Rs 8 crore on its release on May 5. However, controversies surrounding the film and word-of-mouth publicity propelled its momentum, resulting in a humongous collection of Rs 81 crore nett in the first week. It added another Rs 90 crore nett to its collection in the second week.
However, the film lost its steam in the third week. Despite crossing the Rs 200-crore milestone at the domestic box office, the daily collection remained less than Rs 5 crore on weekdays. It earned Rs 4.5 crore nett on Monday, followed by Rs 3.5 crore nett on Tuesday and Rs 3.2 crore nett on Wednesday.
The Kerala Story recounts the story of a Hindu Malayali nurse from Kerala who embraces Islam after marriage and is indoctrinated in extremist ideologies. She is sent to Syria and forced to join ISIS. Apart from Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani are also part of the movie.
