Inheriting his estranged father’s enormous country estate leads Theo James’ Eddie Horniman to the discovery of an illegal cannabis business that he has to manage amidst attempts by British drug cartels to overthrow him in the trailer of Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Netflix series The Gentlemen, a sequel to the filmmaker’s 2019 film of the same name.

Eddie becomes the heir to his father’s London estate after the latter’s death only to discover a shocking truth about his family’s actual business, reveals the two-minute-41-second-long video. Over the years, Eddie’s father has built an industrial cannabis empire inside his house which the former has inherited without any prior knowledge. What makes the situation worse for him is a gang of vicious criminals who want a share of the empire.

Kaya Scodelario’s Susie Glass introduces herself to Eddie as his father’s business partner who reveals the cannabis factory to him. “As the landlord, you’ll receive a significant amount of money, in return for letting us carry out our activities,” Susie tells Eddie while breaking the secret to him.

“People either survive in the jungle or exist in the zoo,” says Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito in the trailer as Eddie comes face to face with the gang that wants to take down his father’s empire. Determined to “remove their interest” from his family’s estate, Eddie tries to beat the criminals at their own game.

With Susie by his side as his advisor and partner-in-crime, Eddie takes down the gang members one by one. “So, in order to not associate ourselves with these criminals, we are going to become criminals,” he says at one instance of the trailer, realising his growing taste for criminality.

“The world of The Gentlemen is a little bit of me,” Ritchie said in a statement in November last year. “We’re looking forward to bringing fans back into that world, introducing new characters and their stories, and I am excited to be doing it with this extremely talented cast,” he added.

The Gentlemen also stars Ray Winstone, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Chanel Cresswell and Jasmine Blackborow.

Ritchie has directed the first two episodes of the series and also serves as the co-writer alongside Peaky Blinders screenwriter EP Matthew Read. The series is backed by Hugh Warren known for Gangs of London (2020), Hanna (2019) and Hard Sun (2018).

The Gentlemen is slated to hit Netflix on March 7.
