After days of anticipation, the upcoming Puja release Tekka revealed the official first-look poster of its male lead, Dev, on Tuesday. The character posters of female leads Swastika Mukherjee and Rukmini Maitra had been released prior to this.
Like the other posters of this film, Dev’s character poster is also designed in the form of a playing card. Dev stares into the camera, brows slightly furrowed and with a look of quiet determination on his face. He wears a dirty, old and almost faded shirt and is bearded, with an unkempt mop of hair on his head. The description accompanying the poster clearly mentions that this character is the ‘Jack’ of the deck.
“Desperation has its own rules — When the Jack goes all out, chaos follows. Meet Iqlakh!” — it reads. What is interesting about Dev’s look is that he can be seen carrying a broom in his hand. Held almost like a weapon, the broom may be symbolic of Iqlakh’s intention to clean up and rid society of its filthy, corrupt elements. A common man, perhaps from the impoverished and underprivileged sections of society, Iqlakh could even be a vigilante on a mission.
Billed as a mystery thriller, Tekka’s poster, which was unveiled earlier, had indicated that Dev could be in a negative role as he was seen holding a gun to the head of a little girl. The character poster’s look, which offers an entirely different perspective to Dev’s role, intensifies the enigma around the character of Iqlakh, as also building interest around the film among fans.
Swastika, who was introduced as the ‘queen’ of the pack of cards, could be seen attired in ethnic clothing and holding a teddy bear. She is probably the mother of the girl held hostage by Iqlakh. Rukmini’s character was unveiled in a poster that resembled the ‘king’ in a card pack. She is seen as a powerful, aggressive character who wields a gun.
Produced by Dev Entertainment Ventures, Tekka, directed by Srijit Mukherji, also stars Paran Bandyopadhyay and Tota Roy Choudhury. Tekka will hit theatres on October 8.
