Madame Web

Based on the Marvel Comics character and intended to be the fourth film in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), Madame Web stars Dakota Johnson in the title role of a clairvoyant paramedic who gains the ability to see into the future. Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor and Isabela Merced play characters who team up with Cassandra Webb/Madame Web to take on deadly forces. Tahar Rahim, memorable as Charles Sobhraj in The Serpent, co-stars.

Dune: Part Two

The much-delayed second part of Denis Villeneuve’s sprawling Dune universe focuses on Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet) on the warpath of revenge against those who destroyed his family, while also working towards averting a horrific future. Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling and Stephen McKinley Henderson return from Part One, while Austin Butler, Christopher Walken, Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux and Souheila Yacoub are the new additions to the cast. Can’t wait!

Mickey 17

Parasite maker Bong Joon-ho ventures into Christopher Nolan territory with an intriguing-looking sci-fi thriller in which Robert Pattinson plays a space traveller. Adapted from the eponymous novel written by Edward Ashton, the film has Pattinson as Mickey, a “disposable” employee who is sent on a mission to colonise the ice world Niflheim. When one iteration perishes, he is cloned, with his memories intact. Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette also star in his March film.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

This much-anticipated film has Godzilla and King Kong — who faced off against each other in Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) — joining forces to take on a deadly new adversary. Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns, and Fala Chen star in this Monsterverse film.
Release date: April 12

‘After discovering she can see everyone’s imaginary friends, a girl embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids.’ That description is enough for us to queue up for IF, aka Imaginary Friends. Written and directed by actor John Krasinski, this comedy features an ensemble cast led by Ryan Reynolds, Krasinksi and Cailey Fleming and features the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Steve Carrell.

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga

Serving as both a spinoff and a prequel to his epic 2015 blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller focuses on the adventures of a young Imperator Furiosa — Charlize Theron played the older version of the character in Fury Road — with Anya Taylor-Joy stepping into the shoes of the younger Furiosa. The film, which has many members of the crew from the 2015 film returning, shows Furiosa being snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and pushed into a Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth), from which she must find her way back home.

Ballerina

The John Wick spinoff has Ana de Armas playing an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma. The highlight? Keanu Reeves will reprise his role as John Wick. Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, the late Lance Reddick, Norman Reedus and Ian McShane co-star.

A Quiet Place: Day One

The prequel to the 2018 post-apocalyptic thriller A Quiet Place will depict the origins of the world we meet the Abbott family in, where silence is the passport to life. Lupita Nyong’o stars in the film, directed by Michael Sarnoski from a story written by John Krasinski, navigating the first moments of the invasion by creatures who are affected by sound, in what is possibly the loudest place on earth: New York City.

Deadpool 3

Ryan Reynolds reprises the title role of the ‘Merc with the Mouth’ in the third film of the Deadpool franchise. Hugh Jackman puts his retirement as Wolverine on hold to appear in the film directed by Shawn Levy. Jennifer Garner returns as Elektra. Deadpool 3, which is part of Phase V of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been voted the most anticipated film of 2024 in Fandango’s annual survey.

Joker: Folie à Deux

The 2024 film that has us most excited belongs to Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga who star in Joker: Folie à Deux. The Todd Phillips-directed musical thriller has Phoenix reprising the role that won him an Oscar for Joker (2019), with Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn. The rest of the cast includes Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener, among others.
